Open Passport

Open PassportWelcome to Open Passport

What is Open Passport?

It is a SSO (Single Sign On) facility to make life easier for you.

What does it mean?

Less, or no need for having to enter your User Name or Password

Why is this something I want?

You may have many user names and passwords and it will save you having to remember them all and having to think up new ones, or administer multiple user login details.

When would I use Open Passport?
When you want to gain access to a restricted web site or program that requires a User Name and Password.

How will I know I am using Open Passport?

Simply by clicking on the Logon button, or the link provided to the restricted web site, or program and being able to see the content of that site, without having to use your User
Name and Password.

How does it work?
By checking that your details exist on your school, college, or works network as a valid user; whether you are accessing it from home, school, college, or work place.

Which restricted websites or programs can I access using Open Passport?

Any that have been set up by your school, college, or work.

What do you mean by set up?

The school, college or work will need to:

1. Subscribe to Open Passport

i. An annual payment to maintain Open Passport (see below).

ii. Apply configuration files and settings (can be done for you remotely).

2. Subscribe to the restricted website or program you want to access (no change).

3. Provide details of the websites or programs so that Open Passport can be set up at these sites and programs configured. These providers will be contacted to be invited to use Open Passport and apply the service.

What benefit is it to the provider?

Using Open Passport will bring down the barrier of logons and make it easier for users to fully utilise the providers web site or program. This would then lead to improved user satisfaction.
