Pioneer Project, Manchester" We were looking for an Integrated Learning System that left the teachers
in control of the learning…we found it in Global. The Global System and planned
developments gave us the potential to fulfil our future aims: linking with SIMS,
creating our own materials, linking in Education in a manageable and accessible
way to the World Wide Web."
The Pioneer Project is based in Manchester, focusing on schools teaching children
within the 3 to 11 age group residing in the area of Moss Side and Hulme.
Funding for the project was secured by the Moss Side and Hulme Partnership and
Manchester Education Committee through a successful Capital Challenge bid.
The project is managed by Nick Carr-Brown who has been seconded from St.
Chysostom's CE. Primary School, where for the last 5 years he has served as ICT
and D & T co-ordinator.
Nick also provides support, advice and training to schools in the Manchester
region. He has recently been involved in writing and supporting the Pride 2 Drugs
project, which involves children taking home pocket books and working on activities
with their parents.
SiR Learning System's curriculum software has been selected for the Pioneer Project
with currently 130 software licences available across 22 primary schools. In
conjunction with Nick, SiR's Education Strategy team have designed a range of staff
training models as part of the overall guidance for the 250 primary teachers within
the project.
The Pioneer schools are very willing to accept visitors, which Nick Carr-Brown can arrange for you.
